The sun not only has 1 UV ray but 3 - UVA, UVB & UVC! This is why it’s very important to protect our skin from the sun. UVA is considered the aging ray, UVB is the burning ray and UVC is stopped by our ozone.
If my clients tell me they frequent the tanning bed, it makes me want to pull my hair out. The tanning bed is NOT good for your skin. You’re laying in a bed with UV rays 2 inches from your face and you’re forcing the melanocytes to rush to the surface of your skin to try to protect itself.
When we get a tan, that’s what it is - protection.
You know those sun spots nobody likes? By getting in front of UV rays on a regular basis, you’re potentially causing those to yourself. This is why we’re able to get sun spots (hyperpigmentation) anywhere on the body. Hyperpigmentation occurs when our cells have been damaged by the sun more times than we can count. Those melanocytes are there to stay because they want to help protect your skin from the damage you’re causing it.
Its way easier to help prevent these sun spots than to help fade them. Trust me. Wear your sunscreen, wear a hat when you’re going to be outside for a long period of time and don’t cook your skin in the tanning bed or by laying at the beach all summer. 🙅🏻♀️
